Day and Night TRUST

Mar 01, 2022

Exodus 13:21-22 By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people. NIV

It’s comforting knowing God is with us day and night, night and day, twenty-four by seven. For God there is no division between day and night.

Notice in Genesis 1:1-5 how quickly God created day and night, it is right after the sky and earth, the darkness and light, then day and night. God made creation for us to enjoy and to be reminded that God made it for humans so He, in turn can enjoy us. He is here regardless of the day or night, earth or sky, darkness or light. God illuminated Himself to continue to establish trust within the Israelites for the situations they would soon be approaching.

In our lives God shows up in noticeable ways as simple as in the form of nature and animals. He answers prayers, and allows us to experience miracles, big and small, in our lives.

We also have the Bible as a form of tangible support as it’s our recorded guide from God to help us understand the world and life as God made it. The Bible can give us assurance and direction in doing the next right thing on our journey just like the pillar was for the Israelites on their track through the wilderness.

My focus must be trusting God day and night. I need to remind myself that God is leading and guiding me twenty-four hours a day. When I keep this focus, I feel safe and I can follow the direction I believe God wants me to take. I sense this by spending time with God.

This sounds great in theory but putting it into practice is challenging because I need to develop a personal relationship with God so I can trust Him. Committing my first portion of the day to God deepens my relationship so I can hear His still, small voice and believe what is said of what I need to do for that day. God does not appear to me visible or speak to me audibly, yet I know when the Holy Spirit is present and then I must listen and trust.

Building this relationship with God is a journey all by itself and I’ve compared it to starting a relationship with a new friend; getting to know the person becomes a desire and a want as we get to discover new things about each other. It can take years to get to this place in a committed relationship and I’ve decided this is what I want.

At first I did not trust God because I did not know Him so I forced myself to work on visualizing what this trust journey looks like for me. Fear is the immediate feeling that would overtake my day and I needed to keep it simple by picturing God holding my hand and we are walking hand-in-hand in perfect stride together in the journey of my life. In 2 Chronicles 20:15-16 it says not be be afraid or discouraged by the army coming against me, the battle is God’s to fight.

Letting scripture sink deep in my soul and letting God permeate me with His love I can then see myself marching in stride with God as we go out against the army that is trying to defeat me daily.

This continues in my life when I stay calm with God holding my hand, keeping in stride, marching as He tells me. It’s an effective way that I choose to live my days, staying in rhythm of His beat allows me to come out victorious.
