Scripture Reflection - God had a specific plan set in place to show his glory. He had the Israelites camp in a certain location. The location was one between land and sea. They where to turn back to where they had just come from and where they had been freed. Trusting God, the Israelites did this. It didn’t make sense, yet they listened.
Pharaoh, the enemy, would think they were wandering around lost in an unfamiliar country. Pharaoh may have thought to himself, ‘they are lost and fearful and thinking they should have never left captivity’, their place of familiarity.
God states, this is to happen so Pharaoh’s heart would harden and he and his army will pursue them and they will know that I am Lord. God has a plan, to show Pharaoh and his army (the Egyptians) he is Lord.
Current Reflection - The trust begins. Trusting what God is telling us to do. God may ask us to do things we do not understand. Like the Israelites, he may tell us to go backwards in our journey, with the desert on one side and the sea on the other. It is hard not to question what we are hearing from God. Why, is a normal response. Yet, like the Israelites, being new to the journey, trusting and following God is what we need to do.
God has the journey all planned for us with strategic steps needed to complete the journey. It makes no sense to go backwards and camp at a place with only one way out to make your enemy think you are confused and trapped! Plus, to say the enemy will purse us for God to gain glory is again hard to understand.
God is setting the plan in action to take final move with the enemy and show them who the Lord really is. Plus, it also shows us, like the Israelites, how God strategically sets things in motion to get his ultimate result when it makes no sense to us.
Personal Reflection –We have trusted God to lead us and we feel safe in his presences. We think we are on easy street, waiting for all the blessings to flow down upon us. We tend to think we have worked hard, listened intently and did everything God told us to do so we will be rewarded. Yet, the enemy pursues us, comes after us when we think we are safe and out of harm’s way. It doesn’t make sense to us.
I believe God wants us to go deeper with him during times when things don’t make sense. By staying in ‘camp’, listening to the guidance of what God wants us to do next and staying in close communication with God we stay fit and in good spiritual condition. Things like taking time to read our Bible, remembering to pray and thanking him for all he has done for us. Then we will be fit and ready to sense his calling when the enemy comes and tries to attack.
I will never fully understand God’s ways. He continues to amaze me in the journey he has laid out. The journey for me has never been the short cut with the easier, softer way. I have questioned many things along the way. Yet, with continued experience I’ve come to learn God always has a reason, even when it makes absolutely NO sense to me.
God has our best interest at heart when it doesn’t make sense to us. Listening is part of the test for us on this Journey of Trust.
