Each spring I experience this gift again like it was yesterday. Noticing the great beauty of nature. The spring is a gift when God begins to reveal the earth’s seasonal rebirth. Crocus’ are the first sign of plant life in our yard. They are hardy and brave, peaking out of the ground when there is still snow left.
The next to present themselves are irises. Ready to be the first to stand amongst the many flowers to come. Their greenery is visible for the entire growing season but the bud of brilliant color appears early. The irises in my yard are deep purple and they take front stage to be the center of attention. They brighten the brown ashy colors remaining from the long winter sleep.
Quickly after a few flowers have shown their brilliance it is time for a good spring rain. This washes away the dirty winter blahs. It refreshes the earth with a drink from above. There’s nothing better than the smell of rain making the grass come alive.
The others smell of spring that awaken my senses are the crisp clean air, fragrant flowers waiting for bees to pollenate, trees budding, and my personal favorite, the smell of dirt. Black soil hidden for the winter months. It has absorbed the moisture of snow and is ready to produce the crop for the season.
I can’t forget the view in the sky. The beauty of the crystal clear blue sky, laden with fine white streaked clouds. Add the v formed flocks of geese returning and it has all but sealed the deal that spring has returned. The final sure tale sign that spring has sprung is the return of the robins. As I was walking today, the first day of spring, I saw a robin!
Nature. God’s proof of life on earth. His way of showing us new life. Beauty in a new start of the season.
