What a bold statement! Hmm, some of you would say – are you prideful, conceited, or arrogant?
While some would consider it bold statement to say I have recently come to question why more women cannot say it or see it.
“I am beautiful”, was selected as a theme for a lady’s retreat I’m planning. Themes are great for planning events, it allows for a direct focus for many aspects of the time being spent together. Selecting this theme came about as I googled the topic “beautiful women”. The women attending the retreat are both beautiful inside and out, so the words were resonating in my mind. The web search came up with the well-known Dove soap campaign focusing on many aspects of women, beauty, friends, and confidence.
For the next half hour, I sat in front of my computer, watching many of the Dove videos, crying my eyes out. My tears were falling because of how we as women do not see ourselves as beautiful. We see all our flaws and things we do not like about ourselves. The videos that struck me the most were ones Dove titles Friends Real Beauty campaign. There are several videos with many different women from around the world, yet they all react the same to the proposed question, “what do you love about your body? and what do you love about your friend’s body?”
Watch the video for yourself.
Do you feel the same way I do after watching a few of these videos? Did they make you sad and questioning why we can’t love ourselves and see the beautiful person God made us to be?
Psalm 139:13-14New Century Version (NCV) 13 You made my whole being; you formed me in my mother’s body. 14 I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way. What you have done is wonderful. I know this very well.
I set a challenge for myself, to think about the things I do like about my body….my smile and my natural salt and pepper colored gray hair. How about you? Can you do it too, can you find a few things you like about your body?
Remember, God loves each of us just the way He made us! Be okay being the YOU, God made you to be. You are BEAUTIFUL!!
Encouraging & inspiring others to find hope in every day life.
